Inspired by the radio code for "in service", Team Ten Eight is Canada's only podcast dedicated to honouring the people who serve and sacrifice to keep us healthy, safe and secure.
We launched this project to provide a platform for the incredible people who choose to step up and serve to share their remarkable stories. In so doing, we offer a medium for listeners to gain a deeper understanding about the person behind the uniform and present a different perspective of the law enforcement, emergency services and military communities than the not so good news that often dominates the headlines.
We figured if we could reach even a handful of folks that would be amazing. In our first year we exceeded those expectations by a country mile. Team Ten Eight is now available on every major podcast provider and the stories we’ve shared so far have been listened to hundreds of times in more than 200 cities around the world.
In the process of producing each episode, we learned about the sacrifices many of our guests have made. The impact their jobs have had on them, on their emotional and mental health, is a common theme that emerged and it’s a theme we’ll continue to spend time discussing with some of our guests as we move forward.
We’ll do so because post traumatic stress disorder, moral injury and occupational (or operational) stress injuries are wounds we cannot see and which we have only scratched the surface of understanding. Because these are wounds that are suffered by many who choose to put on a uniform of some kind, whether that’s a set of scrubs or a badge and gun. Because talking about these wounds leads to healing and de-stigmatizes them. Because mental health matters.
Team Ten Eight gives you the opportunity to go behind the scenes and beyond the badge. To learn what a day in the life looks like for front line health care workers, first responders, law enforcement and military veterans. To understand how these jobs impact them and their families. To honour their service and sacrifice by simply listening.
